the Winter cold and enjoy ideal riding conditions in the
beautiful California Desert. It's the perfect winter escape
where you can combine bicycling with many other outdoor
activities. Average day temperature is 75 and evening 50
degrees. With 340 days of sunshine, good weather is almost
guaranteed. The area is known for its' varied outdoor
activities, which include hiking, golfing, balloon rides,
desert jeep tours, and tram rides up to Mt Jacinto at 11,000
feet. The Cochella Valley is 125 mile East of Los Angles
surrounded by towering snow-capped mountains. Easily reached
by air with many flights into Palm Springs. This is a repeat of our highly acclaimed 2005 trip. The trip will combine enjoyable rides and a variety of fun evening activities.
Meet Monday January 30th and leave Sunday February 5. This is the second time we have let this trip. The cost of the trip will be $750. It will include 6 nights lodging double occupancy, covered wagon tour and dinner, Palm Springs Follies ticket and dinner, picnic at Joshua Tree National Park, Tour de Palm Springs Bicycle Ride and final night gourmet dinner. Transportation arranged for all of events. Single supplement is $330 for the 6 nights at the lodging. The area has well paved wide streets and roads with bike lanes. We have planned several fun evening activities that past tour participants have raved about. Ride options will be from 25 to 50 miles each day on level streets and roads. Maximum number of participants 22.
The first day of riding will be Tuesday, January 31st. Riders will leave the motel and ride into Palm Springs to do a tour of former movie star houses. You’ll see Elvis’s winter home and the homes of many past movie and TV stars. Tuesday evening we’ll go to the Coachella Valley Preserve and do a guided covered wagon tour where you’ll learn interest facts about the history of the desert. After the tour, you’ll enjoy a chuck wagon dinner with entertainment.
Wednesday evening, will go to the Kaiser Grill for dinner and attend the live performance of the famous Palm Springs Follies. The Fabulous Palm Springs Follies is a razzle-dazzle, song and dance extravaganza showcasing the music and dance of the first half of this century that draws thousands of visitors each year.
Thursday will be a rest day. We will provide shuttle transportation to the famous Indian Canyons in Palm Springs where we’ll do a mild hike to a desert oasis surrounded by palm trees and water falls on the Aqua Caliente Indian Reservation.
Friday we will be shuttled to Joshua Tree National Park for a spectacular ride through the desert and than have a picnic lunch. We’ll cycle on well paved roads with no traffic.
Saturday we’ll ride in the Tour De Palm Springs. This annual ride attracts over 7000 riders from all over the nation. The Tour will have ride options of 25, 50, and 100 miles. Saturday night we will have dinner at Le St. Germaine, a well known gourmet restaurant near the motel.
Approximate cost $750 double occupancy. Single supplements add $330 for private room.
