Suggested Packing List- We will be cycling on the shoulder season when the weather can be variable.

Pack Light and Pack Tight!   We each take one (1) bag, such as an "over the shoulder" pack, or small daypack to take on the airplane.  We each carry on one regulation size carry on suitcase with all of our clothes.  Those are our two carry-on bags that are allowed by the airline companies.  When traveling, we never check any luggage except our bikes. The best travel advice I have for people unaccustomed to traveling light is this:  Layout what you think you are going to need. Then, leave half of it home, and take more money.

Make sure that your clothes are lightweight, pack able, mostly wrinkle-proof, & are color-coordinated.  This will save you precious time (and headaches!), because you'll never have to worry if your clothes are going to match or if they need to be ironed.

Bike Packing List

  • Frame pump
  • 3 extra tubes
  • 1 extra tire
  • New tire patch kit (If it is not new, often times the glue has dried up)
  • Tire Irons
  • Alien or Cool Tool

  • Allen wrenches
  • 2 extra spokes for each the front and back wheel, these can be taped to your bike frame.  If anything gets damaged when transporting your bike on an airplane it is generally the spokes.
  • Magic Links – quick changing bike chain links.  If you have a problem with your chain this is a quick and effective repair.  You can buy these at your local bike shop and they are usually sold in a package of two.

Have your bike and checked and serviced by your local bike store before packing.  This is a list of some the things they should check:

  • Headset
  • Tires worn
  • Cables frayed
  • Brake pads worn
  • Handle bar grips worn
  • Bottom bracket loose or bound
  • A spoke is broken
  • A wheel is out of true
  • Rim tape
  • Pump does not work well
  • Gears do not shift smoothly
